2023 Stratastone
Overview
2023 Stratastone

"
What a fantastic mix of red and white, with the Stratastone featuring 68% Syrah, co-fermented with Viognier and 26% Greanche co-fermented with Marsanne. The resulting aromas ar ea perfume of dark raspberries, lavender thyme and a hint of buttery Vacherin Mont d'Or cheese. While the wine's acidity is crisp, its tannins are grippy. Concentrated flavors of black cherry pie and dark chocolate are ably backed by those formidable tannins." - 92pts. Wine Enthusiast,
Cellar Selection
"
There's an immediate richness of blackberry fruit and vanilla bean to the full-bodied 2023 Stratastone, cradled in toasted oak and supple tannins. A blend of 68% Syrah, 26% Grenache, 3% Viognier, 3% Marsanne, the texture is long and velvety, with a kick of grip as it goes. Age 7-10 years." - 90pts. Jeb Dunnuck
"Winemaker Elizabeth Keyser-Hadley took a big swing with this wine in her first full vintage at Rocky Pond, co-fermenting Syrah and Viognier in concrete, and co-fermenting Grenache with Marsanne prior to blending. The compelling nose bursts forth with crushed blackberries, then powering into a fruit-driven palate underscored with granite, graphite and grippy acids. The Syrah pulls in hints of cured meat, and the 18 months spent in one quarter new French oak puncheons hits a home run for flavor, compression and zip. I could happily drink this wine by the barrel." 95pts Paul Gregutt
Tasting Notes
Full-bodied and scrumptious wine that weaves layers of black cherries, bacon fat and olive tapenade, pink peppercorn, gravel dust are accented by herbal, sappy tones on the nose. Palate features concentrated flavors of cherry laced with violet and garrigue. Framed by powerful, powdery tannins and vibrant acidity with a long mineral-driven finish.
