Tasting Notes
Seductive aromatics of ripe black cherry, cedar, crushed gravel and a kiss of oak spice emerge in the glass. The palate is medium to full bodied with polished tannins and a clean line of acidity that brings focused structure to the round mouthfeel. Ample red fruits, notes of graphite and oak spice carry through on the lifted finish, striking a beautiful balance of richness and elegance.
Technical Information
"This is pure Merlot, smooth as silk and sexy as hell, a powerful and potent style that can push many Cabs out of the way of that burger or rib roast. All of these ’22 Rocky Pond reds are chocolatey wines, instantly likeable, yet structured and nicely layered for aging. This Merlot was aged 22 months in two thirds new oak, and for now the barrel toast dominates. The higher the percentage of new oak, the longer it will take to pull itself together seamlessly. This needs decanting if you’re drinking it any time soon." - 92pts Paul Gregutt
"Deep and concentrated, with ripe black cherries, blueberries and a touch of dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied and velvety in texture, with firm, compact tannins, it finishes long with hints of coffee and baking spice. Drink or hold." - 91pts James Suckling
