Critic Acclaim
"It is rich and bold on the nose, with succulent rocky fruit, aromas of black raspberry, plum compote and spiced cherry essence, hints of brown baking spices and balanced florals, revealing impeccable complexity. Full-bodied, the palate is balanced with succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins that express a rich texture over the long-lingering and spicy finish. It's a fantastic wine that spent 22 months in French oak, 80% new. Bravo, this is impressive juice!" - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate May 2023 Week 2 Issue

"With all that new oak it's loaded with baking spices, thus giving it immediate appeal despite its long term aging potential. The dark fruits are typical from the Double D vineyard, and line up taut and polished alongside sharp, polished and balancing tannins. This is a beautifully made wine which should be cellared for at least a few more years and could go into the mid-2030s. Very limited." - Paul Gregutt, PaulG Top Wines for 1/28/23

Critical Acclaim
"I continue to be dazzled by the Rhône-style wines from this new winery. The tight, steely fruit and baseline minerality give the wine precision, length and focus. The aromatics open up with aeration giving a solid expression of the variety, leading into a finely-woven web of brambly berry, espresso, rich earth, tobacco and toasted walnuts." - Paul Gregutt

". . .the 2021 Estate Syrah is spicy, fresh and expressive with classic Syrah notes of purple flowers, sweet peppercorns, dusty and juicy plums, blackberry skin and potpourri. Full-bodied, fresh and savory, the palate offers notions of graphite, hints of sweet sausage and spiced plum compote, succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins. The wine glides to an elegant, spicy and mineral-laced finish. The wine rested for 18 months in 25% new French oak puncheons." - Anthony Muller, Wine Advocate

2021 Tumbled Granite (Red)

95-97 pts. Anthony Mueller, The Wine Advocate Issue 263, May 2023

"The 2021 Tumbled Granite red is a harmonious encore to the acclaimed 2020 vintage. Representing the pinnacle of red wine making, Tumbled Granite is a winemaker's selection of the vintage's purist expression of Double D Vineyard.
The Merlot dominated 2021 Tumbled Granite red offers aromatic notes of oak spice, fresh plum and dusted cocoa and unfolds on the palate with elegant, yet powerful tannin. A sweet dense core showcases ripe blue and black fruit, graphite and cocoa, finishing with seductive oak spice that lingers on the mouth, luxurious finish. Decant at least 1-2 hours prior to enjoyment. Critic Acclaim
"An unusual blend, this deftly amps up the power of the principal Merlot component while keeping the strength and detail of the other two grapes in focus.
It's a fruit showcase loaded with black cherries and cassis, backed with the AVA's underlying minerality. The generous use of new French oak (50%) is kept in check while framing the wine perfectly. This wine was still drinking very well on the 4th day after first being opened." - Paul Gregutt

"Aromatic and inviting, it’s got a pleasing dusty character that calls to mind the Cabs from Napa’s Rutherford Bench. Mouthcoating flavors of blue fruits, cassis, shaved chocolate, sandalwood, espresso and a touch of licorice are artfully combined, set against smooth, ripe and persistent tannins. Aged 22 months in one third new French oak barrels, it’s drinking beautifully and may be at its best over the next half decade" - 94pts. Paul Gregutt

2022 Double D Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

90pts. | Wine Spectator
91pts. | James Suckling
94pts. | Paul Gregutt

"This pure Cabernet is focused and compelling, giving a clear expression of the vineyard and the grape and the terroir. That said, the previous vintage included Malbec, Franc and Merlot in the blend, which added extra depth and detail. So it’s a stand-off flavor-wise. Do you want the focused purity of a single grape, or the extra dimensions of a well made blend? Taken for what it is, this wine packs a lot of power, with rich red fruits, caramel, mocha and silky tannins. It’s smooth and immediately appealing with mid-range ageability." - 94pts. Paul Gregutt

2022 Double D Vineyard Malbec

"Don’t cry for me Argentina, Washington Malbecs need not take second place to your finest. If you love the grape as a pure varietal, sourced from a single vineyard in an emerging AVA, this is one to try. Blueberries and chocolate, with further accents of coffee grounds and sweet tobacco roll across the tongue. Aging 22 months in 55% new oak barrels brings a spicy tang and suggests that further aging will help to pull it all together." - 93pts Paul Gregutt

2022 Double D Vineyard Merlot

91pts | James Suckling

92pts | Paul Gregutt

"This is pure Merlot, smooth as silk and sexy as hell, a powerful and potent style that can push many Cabs out of the way of that burger or rib roast. All of these ’22 Rocky Pond reds are chocolatey wines, instantly likeable, yet structured and nicely layered for aging. This Merlot was aged 22 months in two thirds new oak, and for now the barrel toast dominates. The higher the percentage of new oak, the longer it will take to pull itself together seamlessly. This needs decanting if you’re drinking it any time soon." - 92pts Paul Gregutt

A classic Clos CheValle expression of Syrah bolstered by high-toned Viognier aromatics and pleasing herbal touches from whole cluster inclusion. Aromas of wild raspberries, violets, bacon fat, spice and lavender all lead to a suave, silky, medium palate with chewy tannins and bright acidity that culminates in a herb and mineral laden finish.
Luxuriously framed, but with a pleasing hint of rusticity, the equivilant of a suit with cowboy boots.
